Driving in the UK

Driver restrictions
There are strict guidelines on car and van hire. Please ensure that you are of the appropriate age and have the relevant classifications before booking your vehicle.
All drivers (including any additional drivers) must have held, and be in possession of, a full valid UK driving licence. Drivers aged 23-25 years must have held their driving licence for 24 months and over 25s for 12 months.
There are certain circumstances whereby we can make exceptions, such as if you use your own insurance. Contact us to see if you qualify.

Rental guidelines
- Minimum age for car rental is 25
- Minimum age for van (under 3.5t) rental is 23
- Minimum age for 9, 12 and 17 seat minibuses is 25
- Maximum age for rentals on all vehicles is 70
- A standard licence allows you to drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
- To drive a 12 and 17 seat minibus you must hold a CAT D1
- To drive an LGV over 3.5 tonnes you must hold the relevant class of licence
- Vehicles over 3.5 tonne GVW can only be hired to businesses who hold a goods vehicle operator licence and their own insurance cover

Endorsements
We accept licences with a maximum of 6 penalty points. This can vary depending on the endorsement code and driver status. There are some codes that will prevent you from hiring from us. If you have any more than 6 points for speeding on your licence, please contact your local depot to check if you are eligible to hire.
As part of the rental process, we are obliged to check all licences through the DVLA website. If you are unsure about anything, please contact us for further guidance.
